Sasha Turnbull

Sasha Turnbull developed her drawing skills and interest in sculpture at art school in the late 1960s, primarily making sewn and painted canvas sculpture. She began painting when her children were young – a more convenient medium than bulky sculpture and one that satisfied her desire to work with colour. She has been painting in oil since joining Maggi Hambling’s class at Morley College in 1994 and her work has evolved in parallel with her family life raising children and her passion for creating gardens. Her work reflects her daily domestic surroundings – still life in the Dutch tradition - and close observation of the seasons and the elements inspired by the Sussex landscape.
